Abbotsford International Airshow
1996

August 9-11

Thumbnails for my 1996 pictures are at the bottom of the page.

1996 was just an average year for the Abbotsford Airshow. The scheduled line-up was very impressive but many last minute cancellations were a disappointment. Although average for Abbotsford standards, it was still a very good airshow.

One highlight was the first aerial demonstration by the F-117 Nighthawk at Abbotsford. Unfortunately, mechanical problems prevented it from flying on Friday and Sunday. The Stealth never left Abbotsford until a week after the airshow was over.

Other highlights included the Snowbirds, F-15 x 4 arrival/flybys, T-33 x 4 demo, CF-18 Hornet, F-16 Fighting Falcon, and Jim Franklin/Lee Oman.

On Sunday morning very strong winds (gusts up to 90 km/h) came through the Abbotsford area. One of the casualties was the giant Vancouver Grizzly which was torn out of its place and went flying into the parking area. I was in the right place at the right time; camera in hand.
